In historical events, and for more than seven months, the Sudanese people have shown themselves and the world immense bravery and determination to end thirty years of suffering under the rule of former president Omer Hassan-al-Bashir. To achieve that, the Sudanese women and men have endured gross violations, killing, rape, torture and detention.

On 3 June a largescale attack on peaceful protestors was committed by the Transitional Military Council, more than one hundred protesters were killed, bodies were dumped in the Nile, and tens of women and men were raped and went missing.

Now that a power-sharing agreement was signed between the TMC and FFC, the issue of criminal and transitional justice remains the main challenge for the transitional authorities. Join us in this side event to discuss the events in Sudan and the role of the ACHPR in ensuring justice and accountability for the past thirty years.
